Lester Centre Season Will Feature Top-Tier Live Entertainment With Canadian Flair

The Lester Centre of the Arts today announced the performances that make up its 2019-2020 Mainstage Series, ten shows that span genres from contemporary ballet to mind reading. Upholding its tradition of biannual community musicals, the season will also include a Broadway-style musical featuring a cast of local actors and musicians.

"There are so many great performances to savour, we wanted to announce the season without delay," said Michael Gurney, General Manager of the Lester Centre of the Arts. "We're proud to be presenting a bracing blend of world-class artists. There's something familiar for regular concert-goers to relish, and something fresh for newcomers to discover."

The season kicks off on October 7 with BC-based Motown and soul songstress Krystle Dos Santos. The corps of Ballet Kelownareturns to Prince Rupert on November 13 with the infectious energy of their contemporary dance program Mambo and Other Works. On January 18, the four exceptional pop and classical singers of Vivace continue a globetrotting concert tour that began at the Winter 2010 Olympics. The PEI-born Atlantic String Machinewill appear on February 3, bringing the sounds of East Coast folk to the West Coast. Only a few days later, on February 6, the divas of Viva Trio burst onto stage with a program featuring operatic classics and pop showstoppers. On February 26, the acclaimed Canada's Ballet Jörgen stages quintessential Canadiana in dance form as they present Anne of Green Gables: The Ballet. Keyboard virtuoso Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne coaxes intoxicating jazz out of the Lester Centre's grand piano on March 26.  On April 11, magician and mentalist Spidey will spin a web of intrigue with feats of prestidigitation and mind reading. Rick Scott and Nico Rhodes serve up a smorgasbord of roots, rhythm and groove on April 18.

"This season features an eclectic blend of performance styles, with uniquely Canadian seasoning," observed Gurney. A full listing of shows, dates and links to artist websites can be found online at www.lestercentre.ca to assist patrons with filling their entertainment calendars for 2019 and 2020.

The community musical will be announced later this summer. Auditions will be held in October in anticipation of three performances on April 2, 3 and 4, 2020.
